April3 - CityDAO Guilds Initiation snapshot goes up
🖼 Community Shout-outs & Updates
🌆 A few CityDAO citizens on a walk discussing the future of the project
Here are some notes / topics that were on Vitalik’s mind about CityDAO:
He’s excited about us acquiring more land and getting people using it
Excited about proof of humanity and post-token based governance
Recommended being closer to the bulldozing end of things (see his blog post) until we have a firmer direction.
Asked what it would take to actually get folks moving or using CityDAO owned land
EIP process is not that political and no voting - feels more meritocratic and about ideas and consensus building
Wants the city to be close to society but also maximize autonomy, liked idea of unincorporated area where we control more parameters like zoning and land use, talked about this trade off
Excited about DAOs and collectivism as a contrast to the extreme financialization of the ecosystem with DeFi
🌆 Citizens are voting on Parcel 0 options!
The two options for the drop are as follows:
A) There will be a limited number of Parcel 0 NFT’s (1,000)
This will mean a launch using the parcel viewer that has already been developed and a raffle process like previously planned.
B) Every citizen/citizenship will be eligible to claim a Parcel 0 NFT
This will entail a claims portal which will require development and allow citizens to claim over a certain time period or using an airdrop to send parcel 0 NFTs to all "unique" owners of CityDAO Citizen NFTs (approx: 6.5k), which will be a larger supply.
Please see the CIP in the forum for arguments and reasoning.
Otherwise, please cast your vote for Option 1 (1000 Parcels) or Option 2 (All Citizens)
What does this mean?
Citizens are currently voting on how many NFTs Parcel 0 will have. Worth noting: the launch will be dependent on how this vote goes. If A is decided the launch will be at the end of April. If B), there will be additional time needed to build or otherwise facilitate a claims portal.

🎇 Unleashing the CityDAO community with guilds 🚀
This might be the single most important milestone of the DAO so far (I mean, the DAO going from tweet to buying land in 4 months was pretty crazy but…). CityDAO forming guilds = unlocking the collective skillset / ambition of the DAO!
Here are the guilds being proposed:
Grants and Projects
Research and Education
The guild initiation vote is currently happening - be sure to vote below- LFG!
🌆 CityDAO experiments with analytics on Parcel 0
This has been such a cool project to see progress over the past few months. You’ll see more about this below as it was also involved in the EthDenver hackathon. Huge shout out to @firehorse, @2jamez, @getprsm, @casey and others for doing these awesome experiments with parcel 0.
Fun fact: winds in Wyoming can reach 100 miles per hour and we’ve actually had some trouble with the sensors breaking or being messed up due to these extreme conditions.
🌆 Request for ideas: Parcel 1 brainstorming is happening!
Have an idea for what the DAO should do for our next major land parcel project? Jump into the #parcel-1 channel in discord and let the ideas flow. 🧠
Still continuously amazed by how global the CityDAO community is. Amazing to see so many cultures coming together and to see a glimpse of the places citizens are from!
🌆 Shout-out to fellow citizen @ProfDumpster for founding this incredibly ambitious startup with the goal of creating universal autonomous housing
One of my favorite aspects of the CityDAO is the fascinating and industrious people it attracts. @profdumpster is a perfect example of this.
Who thinks we should get a CityDAO meetup going with Jupes? Perhaps a weekend trip?
🌆 @Scottfits is going to do a TED TALK next week 👀
The lineup is insane!
This is awesome and will give CityDAO a whole new level of exposure - LFG! 🚀
🌆 Huge shout-out to the Dework team on creating this awesome tool for DAOs!
Fun fact: Dework was inspired while working on Dev projects at CityDAO. They noticed a challenge in DAOs and built a tool to solve that challenge. LOVE THE BUILD MINDSET! 🔥
🌆 Mini CityDAO hangout in Seattle! ❤️
🌆 Vitalik shouts out CityDAO in his EthDenver speech
“Government passes a law and it basically gives DAOs this new super power. They can incorporate and now legally own property. They can actually legally do things and act as a legal entities.
That is probably one of the most powerful bridges between the crypto world and the traditional world. Because of that things like CityDAO can exist and plenty of other projects can exist - so that’s amazing.”
🌆 @dylanz & @syntonikka living the life at an experimental in collective living they spent a month (or more) at recently
🌆 Big shout-out to Fortunata who wrote this DAO Legal Framework with a focus on international crypto planning!
🏛 CityDAO Council 🏛
The CityDAO council period was amazing to witness as an observer. Hundreds of hours, so many fascinating conversations / debates and people in voice channels going over each section for a month.
MASSIVE Shout-out to the council for putting in the work to lay an important piece of the CityDAO foundation: @David, @Syntonikka, @Asincrypto, @Favian, @Denvercitizen, @Blackacres, @Gugz, @2Jamez, @Fugyeah, @Elmo, @lyons800, @Casey, @alexthims, @0xL0uis, @Filiblaster, @Vzmind, @Eugene, @Pat Santiago ❤️
⛰ ETHDENVER ⛰
The CityDAO community was out in full force at EthDenver. Hackathon projects, shared accommodation, featured presentations, networking events, a superbowl party - a whole lot was going on! Here are some tidbits and highlights below:

🎙 CityDAO Podcast 🎙
@MemeBrains aka Eric has been ON FIRE with the CityDAO podcast, taking it from 0 to 1 to recording over a dozen episodes in the last few months. Not only that, but he did this with his own money at first out of passion.
Thankfully a proposal has passed to give him funding to cover previous and future expenses.
Check out some episodes below:
Here are some the podcasts recorded so far:
Also, keep your eye out as in the next few weeks we’ll be releasing an interview with a member of the Wyoming State Senate, Chris Rothfuss! 👀
🔈 CityDAO Speaker Session AMAs 🔈
There are so many talented people within the community that setting up a Speaker Series had to be done. @Syntonikka and I have been fortunate to host so many fantastic guests over the past few months. I’ll include the list below.
Note: we have recorded a few of these episodes and published them on the CityDAO podcast. We may request funding in the future to see if it makes sense for the DAO to pay edit fees to publish more on the podcast feed.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE WONDERFUL GUESTS WE’VE HAD SO FAR! ❤️
🌆 Ask Me Anything: with web3-focused lawyer Fortunata
“Fortune favors the bold, and that’s the concept that I’ve always felt very attracted to and inspired to. And with my whole journey in crypto, I also, as an immigrant out of my country, it is crazy to say, I felt very much represented by it. I was like, I’m gonna be bold, I’m gonna go after my dreams and pretty sure fortune will pay off.”
🌆 A journey through DAOs with @Bpetes
“I love thinking about how DAOs grow, scale and fulfill that vision for like more meaningful work and fairer and equitable reward distribution schemes compared to the world I come from.”

🎤 Overheard in CityDAO
Random lines taken out of context from the CityDAO community. CityDAO podcast edition:
“Don’t build wealth for one owner but build wealth for the community. So that’s a lot where my politics lies and that’s why I love DAO’s in general.”
“Joy as being not just happiness but what’s possible together. What can we do together. And I think that for me, that idea is what draws me to politics, that’s what draws me into DAOs.”
“The thing about being in law in crypto is that it’s so challenging and so scary because it’s so unregulated and so new and everything goes so fast.”
“If for CityDAO, we wanted to develop a city, I’ve never thought of that as just CityDAO buying a plot of land, putting up a bunch of buildings, making roads and saying this is CityDAO city number 1, because to me that’s such a blank canvass, there’s no artistry to that, there’s no culture to that, there’s no unifying principle, it’s just people in a space.”
“One of the great things about CityDAO is that we are working within the confines of the law.”
“CityDAO is a city that everyone in the world can join and find opportunity that suit them most.”
“I think the bigger lesson that I learned is that now we are decentralized and we can actually connect with each other, and that is for me truly awesome.”
“The greatest thing about a DAO is that it’s not replacing people, it’s replacing process, and it’s replacing structure.”
“So how do you integrate a DAO, what role does a DAO play with traditional governments and traditional systems that you can figure out what the interplay is and where it fits? That’s the next challenge for CityDAO to figure out.”
“2022 is gonna be the year of the DAO and maybe a good year for other things like Defi’s and NFTs as well but this is gonna be the year of the DAOs.”
“Literally every day I’m talking to several people who are involved in or starting DAOs and every single one is different from the last in some way and every single one is very interesting. And so that is probably the most personally rewarding part of what I’m doing and I’m sure we’re also helping these DAOs but just getting to learn about everything that people are doing and build all these awesome relationships with our potential customers is really cool.”
“I think the mechanism of the elected council to act as curators and authors is a really smart mechanic and I’ve seen this work in other DAOs and non-DAOs.”
“And so, I instantly bought the CityDAO citizenship and I was just blown away with the idea of a group of internet strangers coming together to potentially build what could be the future of cities.”
“I still find technology fascinating, I want to keep creating games and making games with AR/VR but at the same time I want to have time to completely toss technology aside and learn more about humans, learn more about what are some of the things that excite people, what are the differences between different people in different cultures, so that’s where I’m at. I want to experience that as much as I can.”
“Nowadays, I only focus on stuff that has a positive impact, and so CityDAO is one of them. That’s why when they approached me, I was like okay, absolutely, this is perfect.”
“Don’t think so literal. We are in a new space here, there’s a lot of innovation happening, start to think less literal and start to be a little more creative with how you perceive things in the metaverse because that’s where the real magic is.”
