What is CityDAO?

The CityDAO community is made up of ambitious and HIGHLY curious people exploring and building at the frontier of technology, governance experiments and physical land.

The vision of CityDAO is to build the city of the future on the Ethereum blockchain by experimenting with tokenizing land, rights, and governance.

📋Project Updates

CIP-100: The Network City

We have an array of updates on The Network City project. Here are some of the highlights of the updates:

  • With help from Hathaway & Kunz, one of Wyoming’s the leading lawyers, the project has incorporated under the name “Common Labs Inc." as a non-profit organisation (read the full update to learn why the non-profit structure was chosen).

  • CityDAO token holders will be able to mint, with just the gas price, soulbound “Network City Citizen” tokens, which comes with life-time membership of The Network City.

  • Matt Prewitt, president of RadicalxChange Foundation, has joined the team. Matt is a celebrated thought leader in the web3 space. His work, alongside Glen Weyl’s and Vitalik Buterin’s, had brought the concepts of PCO, QV, and QF to light.

  • The project is already starting to receive interest from the art community. Matthew Stone, a world-renowned artist, has expressed an interest in permanently exhibiting his artwork in The Network City.

The full update include much more information. You can read it on the forum post here:

In addition, Will Holley gave a presentation on the project to the Media guild last month. It was very well received by the audience. The presentation covered the idea behind The Network City project, Partial Common Ownership (PCO), and Quadratic Funding (QF). You can watch the recording here:

[NEW] CIP-111: DAOLabs Space in Denver, CO.

A new CIP has been approved on Snapshot. This proposal is planning to open an irl co-working space in Denver, Colorado. This new co-working space will utilise experimental mechanisms such as quadratic funding and partial common ownership. If successful, DAOLabs will look to open more space in other locations across the globe. The space also comes with benefits for CityDAO citizens such as priority booking and free access during off-peak season.

🌆Community Updates & Showcases

Potential new project: t0wn

We have CIP-125, a new proposal which aim to re-brand Big Parcel as t0wn, and resets the scope of the project as a "DAO City". The proposal plans to acquire a large piece of land and create a hub for DAO and web3 organisations. There’re clear evidences that irl hubs are still important, so the CIP-125 team is looking to create “the silicon valley for web3”. CityDAO citizens will have three times the benefits compared to regular members (3x access to the property, 3x governace power, etc.).

Read the full proposal here:

You can also take a look at the pitch deck here:

CIP-124: Q4 Funding

CIP-124was approved on Snapshot just before the start of Q4. This is simply a proposal to extend the funding period of CIP-69: Q3 Guild Structure and Budget to also cover Q4, and facilitators of each guild will continue to work in their duties unless they decide to step down. There were also other minor changes. All the info can be found here:

Articles from writing contest

Following the conclusion of CityDAO’s writing contest, we have three amazing articles from the winner of the contest. These articles were written to answer the question “What major problem could potentially be solved with a network city and how?”. We encourage you to check them out to explore all the interesting potentials of a network city:

AMA with Orange Protocols

CityDAO Co-Hosted a Twitter space with Orange Protocol. The topics that were discussed include DAO accessibility, reputation and digital identity for contributors, and Harberger taxes about our CIP-100 project. This event was a part of the larger scale media initiative for CityDAO. If you have a suggestion for other public facing events that CityDAO can participate in, you can drop a note in the Media channel of CityDAO Discord.

Recording of the Twitter Space can be found here:

New podcast episodes

We have two new podcast episode during the last month:

Guild updates on newspaper

We now have regular guild updates back again, which will be included in the weekly newspaper. Note that not every guild will have frequent updates, since certain guilds tend to have work that are more long-term oriented, so they’ll only provide update when the work is finished or when significant progress has been made.

All our newspaper is currently published on CityDAO website’s blog:
