What is CityDAO?

The CityDAO community is made up of ambitious and HIGHLY curious people exploring and building at the frontier of technology, governance experiments and physical land.

The vision of CityDAO is to build the city of the future on the Ethereum blockchain by experimenting with tokenizing land, rights, and governance. 🏙

🌆 I’m in awe of how passionate and talented the CityDAO community is

Last week one member offered to help with any due diligence CityDAO may need in the US as he is a P.E. qualified to work in all 50 states. @savantgarde had a fitting reply: “Seems like this community can fill just about every need from within!”

Sounds crazy but it rings true.

Let’s be real though - DAOs are often messy. It’s partly this wild energy that attracts us, no doubt, but it is worth admitting that we’re very much a work in progress. Last month CityDAO went from 1.5k to 26k people in the Discord server. This is not normal. Finding ways to unlock the unreal talent in the DAO is going to be a challenging adventure, but it is one that I am so excited to go on with y’all!

We are just getting started with the IRL CityDAO meetups and already there have been multiple that have happened or are scheduled. 😀

The CityDAO LA group has already met a bunch of times in the last 10 days, which is awesome. I love seeing the community come together like this!

The DAO is actually in the process of getting more IRL meetups off the ground around the world! If you’re interested in joining or helping host / coordinate a meetup, head to the #hang-out-irl channel in discord and let it be known.

We’ll likely be forming a Season-0 project specifically to help with this.

Huge shout-out to @Syntonikka. who has been working on designs for CityDAO swag, specifically designed for people who go to the IRL meetups. Stay tuned as we’re cooking up some experiments around how to best utilize these.

Also worth noting: she is also working on two more versions: “one simple and minimalistic, and another one kinda colorful and engaging.”

🌆 Weird flex, but ok: we’ve banned almost 3k scam accounts in Discord

Web3-discord has a serious scam problem. We’ve seen fake collab.lands DMing ppl just as they type verify or even core team members being impersonated.

Huge shout-out to our active and proactive community who have been working hard to surface these scammers ASAP in #report-scammers so they can be banned. Make no mistake, DAOs are in a war with scammers, and the best communities have an active immune response to surface and ban them 💪.

I’m not going to lie - the CityDAO community is so industrious and focused on building that it is hard for me to keep up. Each week I’ll try my best to give updates on the various projects in development.

Note: there is so much going on that I may miss things. If I missed a project or update you think should be include please let me know! 🙏

Parcel-explorer project

Storefront for ⛰️Parcel 0 sale.

Update: this project is basically ready to roll out. We’re just waiting on final consultations with lawyers and then we’ll have an exciting announcement to make. 😉

In the meantime… glimpses of collaboration: here are some design iterations for the plots:

Parcel 0 sensors (hardware) project

A project to rig up the DAO’s first land parcel with sensors / cameras to provide interesting data from the first land parcel purchased by a DAO in Wyoming.

I suspect CityDAO dev and analytics contributors will be able to have good use for this. Also might connect with the transparency dashboard project and perhaps something related to conservation.

Constitution / Charter project

Collectively develop CityDAO's constitution (charter).

Josh Rosenthal not only agreed to be on the CityDAO podcast, but is super excited about it! Many have likely heard Josh on the Bankless pod episode called The Crypto Renaissance (one of my favorite podcast episodes of all time).

Hey! We have gotten to the point where we have a solid grasp on 3 types of episodes we will/can run. Initially, we are looking at interviewing some of the founders/initial starters for CityDAO, I believe Scott is the first one up. Possible talk with him on Monday, if I read that correctly? We will be starting with a more FAQ style of episodes, aiming for about 10 minutes max. This is to allow for listeners to get a solid idea of the core team, along with their positions on the DAO, what they think about the future of the DAO, etc. This is intended for both members of the DAO and others. So in todays call, we started with some specific questions on topics, and I believe @MemeBrains fleshed out further ideas/questions later in the day. So that was the main topic of conversation: getting scott as the first guest, the beginning of more fleshed out questions with continued follow through, and discussing starting recording episodes next week or two. Feel free to fill in more Memebrains if I missed anything!

City-bot project

Bot for integrating Discourse forum and Discord to gauge interest on proposals and establish a pipeline for proposal → vote.

Level-up our communications and documentation in Notion.

welcome to operations. we typically meet once a week on Monday or Tuesday, but this week we're trying to meet on Thursday. You can join then and we can help get you up to speed. Our goal is to transfer all the energy and enthusiasm around CityDAO into productive capacity and output to help build the City. Right now we're working on creating a pipeline for Citizens to turn their shower thoughts in Discord into actual projects that are executed on. - @ronaldinho

Land-token-standard

Develop a standard for land ownership tokens. Will later extend to more specific use cases such as rental properties and fractionalized land ownership.

This project is currently archived and on hold as consultation with lawyers happen.

Transparency-dashboard

Contract for tracking DAO-owned wallets and transactions. Frontend dashboard for displaying DAO's funds and uses

Upvote on the potential egoistical nature of having human statues. The beauty (whole point) of DAO is we are migrating from feudalistic to autonomous way of community governance, gotta avoid them cult figures. I think the art piece should be an abstraction from the core principles of blockchain (like hash functions, merkle trees, ledgers and blocks, etc) I think would be cool for us to run some sort of hackathon style project pitch, invite well-known NFT artists (like @exitsimulation @fvkrender) to collaborate on this idea, offer opportunity to 3D print / hand craft their art on the land.

Bought the mint, stepped away for 2 weeks and caught the AMA recording. Wow team is on it! Someone in RSOP community mentioned to check this out @ mint. Glad I did, I'm diving in deeper to get further understanding of the direction and how the DAO will be managed. Thank you to this dedicated team to what I have experienced so far. Professional!!!

A looong time ago I tried to create a procedural city game with Unity. Project got paused cause I got stuck on road generation and stuff, but would love to pick it up again once I got more time to myself ^_^ Wondering if anyone's down to collaborate on a procedurally generated city game

I feel you. I've been going back and forth about selling myself because I know a good return on investment when I see one! However, I've decided to remain with the project. Some things are bigger than money and I think this is one of them. This project with some of the most influential people in Web3 on board (looking at you, Balaji and Vitalik) actually is one of the first dominoes to fall into the future of society building, in my opinion. I'm a municipal employee in my day job. I work in a cabinet-level office at a major city on East Coast US. Office serves a policymaking function. My background is social work/public health.

There are a million and one projects out there but this project is one of a kind. It's not about pumpamentals or getting rich. As far as I can tell, it's a proof of concept regarding a very important move forward in what a DAO can do - legally, ethically, financially and humanistically. The participation in CityDao is not about retweeting and holding until a price is hit. It's futurism in its current form.id say when in doubt zoom out

So excited for the possibilities of governance experimentation and ~equitization~I’m just pumped to be a part of hopefully making democracy more delicious

In addition to being a lawyer, I'm currently getting a masters and my thesis is on sociology of the metaverse. I think there are definitely legal implications for CityDao that will in turn serve as foundational for the entire metasystem, both IRL and in VR

I am qualified to do due diligence in all 50 states. The company I work for also does land surveys in all 50 states.

"well done to all citizens who voted as we have passed CIP 14 with major yes of 94%. I am co-leading partial of the CIP 14 parcel 0 land use sensor integration. This subtask is allocated with up to 2.5 eth to fund cameras and sensors outlined in the CIP-14 forum post.

The goal here is to make a camera live stream of the parcel, live temperature sensor, and LTE IoT devices to send the data back, and for dev team to create a dashboard for viewing the camera, temperature, and IoT data.
