What is CityDAO?

The CityDAO community is made up of ambitious and HIGHLY curious people exploring and building at the frontier of technology, governance experiments and physical land.

The vision of CityDAO is to build the city of the future on the Ethereum blockchain by experimenting with tokenizing land, rights, and governance.

📋Project Updates

t0wn

The t0wn project was approved on Snapshot in early November. This is a project that was re-branded from The Big Parcel project. The aim of t0wn is to create a physical hub for DAOs and web3 organisations. You can follow/join the discussions about the project in the #t0wn channel of CityDAO Discord. The public kick off call was hosted on Monday 21st of November, followed by a Twitter Space AMA on Monday 13th of December. More calls/spaces may be hosted in the future, be sure to look out for them if you want to learn more about the project.

Baby Parcel

Now that we have a small piece of land that we can experiment on, the teams have been working on dividing the land into smaller plots for lease, and deciding how the NFT lease system is going to work. A document with all the details regarding the Baby Parcel NFT is currently being prepared. Also, the name that we’ve been using to call the parcel is “Parcel Blanca” due to its proximity to Blanca Peak. You can use both names interchangeably to refer to the same parcel, but Baby Parcel is the official name.

Below is the current plan on how the division of the parcel is going to look:

[New] Harberger Tax NFT Protocol & Marketplace

We have a brand new project that was approved on Snapshot in late November. As the title suggested, this is a project that aims to create an NFT protocol and marketplace that is inspired by the Harberger Tax system. The currently proposed details are as follows:

• The team consists of our citizens MemeBrains and TheBossDragon. The two have plenty of experience in startups and web3.

• Requested funding is $125,000 with the first $75,000 being transferred at the beginning, followed by the last $50,000 after an initial MVP has been launched. (Originally, the request was $250,000 over four milestones, but the team is offering to lower it to $125,000 due to concerns from the community. The settlement has yet to be made.)

• CityDAO would receive 20% royalty fee from the revenue of the venture until it has received $250,000, then it would receive %5 for a further $750,000, totalling $1,000,000 for CityDAO treasury.

• The team will first and foremost focus on building specific functions and features required by active CityDAO projects related to this project.

CityDAO Videos by Community Guild

The Community Guild has produced a couple of videos for you to enjoy. We’re hoping to create more visual content that will allow members of our community to look back at all the progress that we’ve made. And we want people who have yet to hear about CityDAO to be able to learn about our project in a more entertaining way.

DAO Coalition

DAO Coalition was a proposal that was approved on Snapshot in early November. The main aim of the proposal is to fund CityDAO’s effort in forming a coalition of approximately 30 DAOs and supporting organisations that would advocate on behalf of DAOs within the United States and globally. CityDAO would play the leadership role as the coalition advocate in Washington, DC. Our citizen, Stuttgart, is the one who started the coalition. He would serve as CityDAO’s representative for this initiative.

Writers Cohort

In a collaboration with Taptive, we have launched our Writers Cohort programme where participants got to write a 1000-word blog post every week for 3 weeks and join workshops to receive comments on the blog posts that they wrote. The programme started on November 25, and many citizens signed up to participate.

The main aims of the Writers Cohort programme were to:

1. Build a writing habit and grow your online presence.

2. Gain the confidence to hit publish and establish your online voice.

3. Connect with other CityDAO Citizens and discuss the future of crypto cities.

Updates from BlocksocDAO

BlocksocDAO was one of the three projects that received grants from CityDAO, along with Nicenode and CityData. BlocksocDAO is building a DAO to connect students to one global platform, and they have provided us with some update on the project that they’re working on. They informed us that the development for MVP is nearly complete, and that they’ll be doing V1 launch before Christmas. They also agreed to be on a Twitter space or a podcast with CityDAO to discuss about their project and do showcase of what they were able to achieve with our help.

New Time Slot for Teach Anything

Teach Anything is an educational activity hosted every 2 weeks by tippi fifestarr from Education And Research guild. In this event “teachers” can sign up to teach about anything, and anyone can join as an audience. The event is being hosted on Friday, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm GMT, and the newly added time slot is on Tuesday, 3:40 pm to 5:00 pm GMT.

Teach Anything sessions are hosted on Zoom. The link to the meeting room will be shared in the Education And Research guild channel before the event begins.

Outstanding Treasury Management

We have a finance team that have been overseeing our treasury since May. In the past, we held most of our assets in ETH, and due to the bear market, our treasury lost quite a bit of its value. But in the past several months, the treasury management team has been strategically converting ETH to USDC, taking advantage of the price fluctuations. We’re now holding most of our assets in USDC, and thanks to the team, our average ETH sale price is higher than the current market price.

CityDAO TikTok

We now have a CityDAO TikTok account. This is the latest addition to our social media accounts, so it is still lagging behind our latest news and updates. We’ll be rolling out content that are tailored to better fit TikTok’s format and style, so make sure to follow the account if you want more CityDAO content.
